Est. MMXXVI · A Third Space

Anchises Coffee House & Studio

A room for conversation, art and ideas — both ancient and modern. Coffee by day, wine by evening, books always, and a quiet corner for artists at work.

Our Story

A house for conversation,
not for show.

Anchises was founded as a third space — somewhere that is neither home nor work, but a room of its own. Our emphasis is on sharing and engaging with art, philosophy and creative ideas, both from antiquity and being made today. We are a coffee house and a wine bar, a small library and a quiet gallery, and a few studio spaces for artists who want to work alongside good company and a fair cup.

The setting is rustic and unfussy by intention. You will not be drawn here by a plush interior — you will be drawn by who is at the next table, by the book on the shelf you didn't know you needed, by the work hanging on the wall this month. We hold conversation in higher regard than décor.

Bring a friend. Bring a notebook. Bring an argument worth having.

A room without books is like a body without a soul.
Marcus Tullius Cicero
The interior of Anchises Coffee House and Studio: a barista pulling espresso at the bar with wine bottles on a shelf above, an arched doorway through to the studios and gallery, an artist working at an easel, an older man reading by the fireplace, a couple sharing coffee on the left and a group of four talking over wine on the right, books filling the walls, with the Anchises sign hanging overhead and a branded coffee mug in the foreground
Inside

Five rooms,
one house.

The building works as a small Greek house might have — a series of rooms, each with its own purpose, sharing a single hearth. Wander between them.

i.

The Coffee House

Carefully sourced beans, slow mornings, and a counter that doesn't mind if you sit a while. A flat white that earns the second cup.

ii.

The Wine Bar

From late afternoon, a short list of honest wines — old-world leaning, small producers, served by the glass. The room shifts; the conversation deepens.

iii.

The Library

A working collection of books from antiquity onward. Take one down, read it here, or leave one of your own behind for the next reader.

iv.

The Gallery

A rotating wall given over to local artists and writers. New work goes up each season. Everything you see is for sale or for argument.

v.

The Studios

A handful of small studio spaces for artists who want to work in company. Coffee on tap; the gallery wall a few steps from the bench.

Day to Night

From the first pour to the last glass.

Mornings begin at the counter — espresso, batch brew, something to read. By late afternoon the room turns: the lamps go on, a small wine list comes out, and the library stays where it is.

One room, one rhythm, all day.
